Please note that audit schemes vary in their auditor qualification requirements and an applicant might not be able to perform all the different schemes that are available without extra education, training and/or experience. Please contact PrimusLabs Auditing Dept. for details regarding specific schemes.

Points 1 through 4 are required metrics for all auditors on the register. A resume with supporting documents (transcripts, training course outlines and records, certificates, etc.)

Point 5 and onwards are required for Primus Employees and Subcontractors and while ideal for all other software users, are not metrics that are measured by PrimusLabs.

1) Auditors sign an agreement to abide by PrimusLabs auditor rules and audit schemes normative documents, for example, general regulations and technical documents.

2) Education. Bachelor’s degree or associates degree (2 year course) in food related discipline, for example, food science, food technology, agriculture and microbiology. Education records to be supported by copies of transcripts.

3) Experience. Minimum of two years work experience working in the food/agriculture industry performing activities directly associated with food safety, for example QA supervisor, internal auditor, production manager, sanitation manager. Working in a food company performing tasks that are not related to food safety would not count towards experience requirements. References maybe requested.

4) Training. All training claims must be supported by copies of the details of the training courses, training records and certificates. Training can be used to cover shortfalls in education requirements, for example, an applicant wishing to perform GAP audits, whose education lacked crop protection chemical instruction can provide evidence of post education crop protection chemical training.

Training records that are required:-

• Food safety/hygiene - should cover sanitation, personal hygiene, process controls, pest control, basic microbiology and food safety legislation.
• HACCP - minimum 2 days basic HACCP training using a reputable training authority program for example the International HACCP Alliance (full details of course content to be provided). Ideally auditors should also have advanced HACCP training certification. Even when not auditing HACCP systems, being able to apply basic risk assessment techniques will help in many auditing situations.
• Auditor training - how to perform audits and auditing best practices.

Optional (depends of schemes being audited)

• Some schemes require Lead Assessor Training (either ISO 9000 (Quality) or 22000 (Food Safety))
• Pesticides Training - required by GAP schemes
• Social Accountability - required by some schemes

Training requirements are on-going, both refresher training and new training topics as needed.

5) Auditor must be familiar with all applicable Federal/national, State and local regulations regarding food safety.

6) Language fluency. Auditors should be able to speak, read and write fluently at a professional level in the language of the auditee they are servicing.

7) Computer literacy (internet applications, Excel, Word, etc.). Most audits are entered onto databases.

8) Auditing skills. The list below outlines skills which help auditors perform a high-quality service.
