SYSCO's extensive produce quality assurance staff has been the leader in developing food safety programs for SYSCO
Branded Produce products. Field and facility audits, ranch inspections, traceability requirements and enforcing high
quality standards have been the normal activities for this department. These activities have focused on protecting the
SYSCO Branded Products. To help ensure food safety and maintain our customer’s confidence, we must implement Food Safety
programs that will include all ready to eat produce products, distributed by SYSCO/FreshPoint Operating Companies

Publix Super Markets, Inc. is a leader in the industry for food safety and food security. Given the recent
food safety concerns regarding the fresh produce industry, Publix is expanding its continuous quality improvement
efforts in the area of fresh produce safety.
|
|
|
With the help of produce growing and handling professionals, we are initiating a scientifically
based audit program. As a condition of doing business with Safeway, growers and shippers of certain
agricultural commodities will be required to participate in a verifiable, independent third-party
food safety audit. The program will focus initially on produce which has been implicated in
food-borne illness outbreaks by the Center for Disease Control or FDA, or which has otherwise
been identified as a high risk for potential contamination. Once the produce safety program is
in place, we will purchase produce only from growers/shippers meeting the objective standards
necessary to be certified under the program.

Rubios Fresh Mexican Grill in partnership with PrimusLabs has launched a cooperative
food safety venture with our fresh produce suppliers. Rubios Fresh Mexican Grill suppliers
will be required to utilize the program.
The program will allow Rubios Fresh Mexican Grill suppliers to train staff,
develop operation-specific manuals, conduct and score self-audits and identify
deficiencies. The program also offers corrective suggestions, all at no cost.
The system was chosen for its cost efficiencies, both for our suppliers and for
Rubios Fresh Mexican Grill review process. As part of this cooperative program,
PrimusLabs maintains detailed records of the efforts of all Rubios Fresh Mexican
Grill suppliers utilizing the system.
